Visiting the Hendrickson's in the Bahamas was such a blessing and I fell in-love with the island and the people very quickly!
During my time there I toured the hurricane path of Dorian and met the families affected by these tragic events. I also interviewed for both the CYN and Agape Christian School. Both were such an amazing opportunity and I feel honored to be hired as a 5th grade teacher for Agape Christian Private school in Marsh Harbor and the part-time School Coordinator for Caribbean Youth Network.
During my time there I met pastor Gabe Swing and his wife Jan from the EPC church plant, Kirk of the Pines. They have such a heart for the community in Marsh Harbor and fervently service those in need, while sharing the Gospel of Christ! I also stayed with the Hendrickson family for a week, which allowed me to know Carrie and Barrett more personally. During my time with them, I played soccer with a group of children they minister to on Monday nights, which was such an unreal experience to have fun and meet the people they impact so deeply in the surrounding community. I would like to also proudly announce I was the first one to score a goal against Mr. Barrett's team and be on the winning team!
Another big opportunity I had in the Bahamas was not just interviewing at Agape Christian school, but also taking a tour of the school. The school is not very large and still in repair after the tragic destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian. The school and myself (for after school tutoring programs) are still in great need for educational supplies. Finally, we are currently at 90% funded for up-front costs and at 85% for monthly pledges! Whoop Whoop! God is doing great things and providing so generously, but we still have a bit to go before we are fully funded and prepared to start missionary work in August.
